9k Gold Triplet Opal Pendant

  • Opal Type: Triplet Opal
  • Origin: Lightning Ridge, Walgett Shire, NSW
  • 9K Yellow Gold & Diamonds
  • Stone Size:  18*11 mm

The stone name opal comes from the Sanskrit word “upala” for stone, or precious stone.

Triplets consist of three layers:

A black backing as above

A paper-thin slice of opal in the middle

A clear glass, quartz, or plastic capping in the shape of a dome.

Opal is a stone of inspiration which enhances imagination and creativity. It can bring inspiration to projects and to life and Spirit.

Opal has a larger proportion of water in it than most stones and is considered a water stone. This can help ease the effort of handling change in life. Like water rolls over and past rocks and roots in its way, the energy of opal can help continue on your path regardless of obstacles. During times of transformation, this is an invaluable energy to work with and hold close to your heart.

Mentally, opal is said to enhance memory. It is also used to decrease confusion.

The translucence of a crystal opal often gives it a greater clarity and vibrancy of colour than opaque stones.

A black backing which is made of either black industrial glass, black patch (colourless opal), hard plastic, brown ironstone or sometimes vitrolite.

A thin slice of opal (normally crystal opal or white opal). The thickness of the opal in a doublet can vary, however, it is generally thicker than the opal found in a triplet. The edges of the slice of opal are generally rounded off (if there is enough opal) to give the stone a cabochon (domed top).

Semi-black Opal

, also known as

Dark Opal

Grey Opal

, refers to opals which have a darker body tone than white opals, yet are not quite dark enough to be classified as Black Opals. They are found mostly at Lightning Ridge, however they have also been found at Mintabie in South Australia.
