Between our Silver Natural Pearl Pendants and Necklaces, you’ll find both Saltwater Pearl Pendants and Necklaces and Freshwater Pearl Pendants and Necklaces.

Saltwater Pearls are “bead nucleated”, which means that its nucleus is perfectly round, which provides the oyster with a sort of guide or template that allows the creation of perfectly round pearls. Apart from their characteristic shape, these pearls are distinguished by their fineness and their higher prices, due to the conditions required for its cultivation. Of this type, we can find Australian South Sea Pearls, produced by Pinctada maxima or silver-lipped pearl oyster shells and treasured for having the thickest nacre of all (2mm to 6mm vs. 0.35mm to 0.7mm of Akoya pearls).

Australia is the only country in the world that uses wild oyster stocks, always ensuring sustainability.

Another kind of Saltwater Pearls are Tahitian Pearls, one of the rarest type of pearls. These pearls are primarily cultivated around the islands of Tahiti (French Polynesia) and are available in shades of black with overtones of grey, bronze and dark green.

Freshwater Pearls, on the other hand, are “tissue nucleated”, meaning the nucleus is made up of 1mm square pieces of mantle tissue harvested from a donor mussel. This results in diverse shapes: potato-shaped and stick pearls, rice-shaped and button pearls, coin-shaped and drop pearls, off-round, and round pearls. Freshwater pearls are the most commonly produced ones and extremely durable. Also, their larger harvest volume accounts in part for their lower prices.

In Australia, Freshwater Pearls are grown in freshwater lakes, rivers, and ponds, mainly found in northwest Australia, Broome area, covering a wider range of color and shape than any other pearl type. Their unique shapes and wide range of colours combined with their charming character have made them a favourite among jewellery designers, shoppers, and pearl connoisseurs alike. In addition to the traditional white body colour, these pearls come in a rainbow of natural pastel colours. Among our items you’ll find  lavender pearls, pink pearls, and every shade in between.
