Freshwater Pearls are “tissue nucleated”, meaning the nucleus is made up of 1mm square pieces of mantle tissue harvested from a donor mussel. This results in diverse shapes: potato-shaped and stick pearls, rice-shaped and button pearls, coin-shaped and drop pearls, off-round, and round pearls. Freshwater pearls are the most commonly produced ones and extremely durable. Also, their larger harvest volume accounts in part for their lower prices.

In Australia, Freshwater Pearls are grown in freshwater lakes, rivers, and ponds, mainly found in northwest Australia, Broome area, covering a wider range of color and shape than any other pearl type. Their unique shapes and wide range of colours combined with their charming character have made them a favourite among jewellery designers, shoppers, and pearl connoisseurs alike. In addition to the traditional white body colour, these pearls come in a rainbow of natural pastel colours. Among our items you’ll find  lavender pearls, pink pearls, and every shade in between.
